With 1st Ed SmartWallet, you have more control than ever over your debit and credit cards through your mobile device or desktop. Accessible within our Mobile Banking app and through Online Banking, SmartWallet gives you access to real-time information and controls to keep your cards secure. You can decide how, when, and where your cards can be used, set limits, view transaction history, make payments, and more!

 

Exciting news: you can now use SmartWallet to add your card to your device’s mobile wallet! Read instructions for Apple Wallet and Google Pay below.

How to add cards to Apple Wallet

Instructions for Apple devices:

  • Open SmartWallet, navigate to your desired card, and tap the “Add to Apple Wallet” button. You will be prompted to add your card information and to read and accept the Terms & Conditions in your device’s settings. After you have confirmed your card, you can set a PIN within our mobile banking app. You can now begin using your card with Apple Pay.
  • If the “Add to Apple Wallet” button does not appear, you can add your card within the Apple Wallet app. Open your Apple Wallet, click the “Add” button in the top right corner, and choose “Debit or Credit Card.” Enter your card information, read and accept the Terms & Conditions, and verify your card if prompted to do so. You can now begin using your card with Apple Pay.

How to add cards to Google Pay

Instructions for Google:

  • Open SmartWallet, navigate to your desired card, and tap the “Add to Google Pay” button. Press continue, set a PIN, and follow the prompts to begin using your card with Google Pay.
  • If the “Add to Google Pay” button does not appear, you can add your card within the Google Wallet app. Tap the “Add” button at the bottom, choose “Payment Card”, then “New credit or debit card”, and enter your card details. Tap “Save and continue”, then accept the Terms & Conditions, and complete the verification process if prompted. You can now begin using your card with Google Pay.

How to Access SmartWallet

  • SmartWallet will be available within the 1st Ed Mobile Banking app by June 25. Depending on your device’s automatic update settings, you may need to update your app to the latest version to access SmartWallet.
  • You can access SmartWallet within the mobile app by clicking the “Cards” link at the bottom of your screen. SmartWallet will not require a separate login within the mobile app. Simply launch the app and locate the “Cards” button at the bottom of your screen, and swipe to view  each of your cards, or to add a new card to SmartWallet.
  • SmartWallet can be accessed via our Online Banking platform if you prefer not to use the app.
    • To access SmartWallet via Online Banking, click the SmartWallet link under Services.
    • Create new login credentials for SmartWallet, and add your card details.
    • To add more cards or switch between cards, use the dropdown in the upper left corner.

SmartWallet Features

  • Turn your card off and back on within seconds: Can’t find your card? Lock your card to put a temporary block on all transactions (except recurring payments) until you unlock your card by turning it back on.
  • Transaction details: View details of your recent transactions.
  • Set up alerts and updates: Receive notifications and set controls on how your card is used, including limits on spending, merchant type, transaction type, location, and more.
  • Make payments: Pay your credit card bill online within SmartWallet. As of June 24, credit card payments will temporarily be unavailable through 1st Ed Online and Mobile Banking. Payments must be made via SmartWallet or by mail using the updated payment mailing address.
  • Report a lost or stolen card: Report a lost/stolen card and fraudulent activity to place an immediate block on your card and order a replacement to be mailed to the address on file.
  • Budget and spending tracking: Get insight into your spending habits with a detailed breakdown of what, when, and where you’re using your card.
  • Travel plans: Planning a trip? Share your travel details to avoid being flagged for suspicious activity.
  • Digital card access: View a digital version of your card and push to your device’s digital wallet (coming soon!)
  • View recurring transactions: See the merchants that have your card on file, and view recurring transactions/subscriptions

How to view and add cards

In SmartWallet Mobile: 

  • Open SmartWallet by clicking the Cards button on your mobile app’s navigation menu.
  • Swipe through the card image carousel or click the arrow button to view your cards.
  • To add a new card, swipe or tap the right arrow and click Add Card.
  • Enter your card information and click Continue to verify your information and finish adding your card to your SmartWallet portfolio.
  • To hide a card, Click the Settings button in the upper right corner and choose which cards you want to manage under the Hide/Show Cards.

In SmartWallet Web: 

  • Log in using the SmartWallet link under Services in Online Banking. If this is your first time using SmartWallet via Online Banking, you will need to set up new login credentials and enter your card information.
  • Click the Switch or Add Card dropdown in the upper left corner. Here you will see all cards you have added to your SmartWallet portfolio.
  • Click Add Card and enter your card information to add it to your SmartWallet portfolio.
  • To hide a card, Click the Settings button in the upper right corner and choose which cards you want to manage under the Hide/Show Cards.

How to turn your card off/on

  • After navigating to SmartWallet, select the card that you want to turn off/on by swiping or clicking the arrow buttons.
  • Toggle the on/off switch directly below your card image to your desired setting. Turning your card off will decline all transactions except recurring payments until the card is turned back on.
  • Turning your card off places a temporary block on transactions. If you believe your card has been compromised, please report it as lost or stolen to place a permanent block and order a new card.

How to view transaction details and history

  • Your recent transactions will show under the card you used to make the purchase.
  • Click each purchase to reveal more details, including the time and date of the purchase, the amount, whether the purchase is a recurring/autopay or one-time purchase, and more.
  • To view older purchases, click View All.
  • If you’re looking for a specific purchase or purchase type, use the Filter or Search features to narrow your history.
  • To view more detailed transaction information, enable Transaction Enrichment
    • Click the Settings button in the upper right corner
    • Click Transaction Enrichment to opt into this feature.
    • Transaction Enrichment uses your device’s location to provide additional details about in-person purchases, such as vendor name, address, logo, contact information, and street view, to allow you to see exactly where your card was used. This feature requires that you always allow access to your location, even when the app is closed, to ensure accurate data.

How to set up controls and alerts

  • Tap Controls & Alerts under the Manage Card menu
  • Use the Controls menu options to set limits on how your card can be used. You can block transactions based on location, merchant category/type, transaction type (online, in-store, ATM, etc.), and spending limits per transaction.
  • Use the Alerts menu to choose when you want to be notified about your card activity.

How to make a credit card payment

With SmartWallet Mobile: 

  • Select your credit card by swiping through the card carousel or by tapping the right and left arrows.
  • Click Balances to view your current balance, available credit, next payment due date, and more.
  • Click Pay Balance to make a payment.
  • To make a payment, click One-Time Payment
    • Choose the amount of your payment.
    • Select the date you want the payment to be processed. Payments can be scheduled up to 31 days in advance, but the default is a same-day payment. If the payment is made after 5 PM, it will be processed the next day.
    • Select the payment account. See Manage Payment Accounts to add or remove payment accounts.
    • Click Review to review the details of your payment. Click Pay to authorize the payment.
  • To set up a recurring payment, click Autopay.
    • Choose the amount that you want to pay each billing cycle.
    • Choose the payment account that you want to transfer from.
    • Click Schedule to authorize the autopayment. Autopay will begin on the next statement billing cycle.
  • To manage the accounts you can make payments from, click Manage Payment Accounts.
    • Your 1st Ed checking account is the default payment account. To remove, click the account and click Remove.
    • To add a different account, click Add Manually. Enter the account information and click Add Account.
  • Once you have made a payment, it will be visible under Payment Activity.

 

With SmartWallet Web: 

  • Select your credit card from the dropdown menu in the upper left corner.
  • Click View More to view your current balance, available credit, next payment due date, and more.
  • Click Make a Payment to make a credit card payment.
  • To make a payment, click One-Time Payment
    • Choose the amount of your payment.
    • Select the date you want the payment to be processed. Payments can be scheduled up to 31 days in advance, but the default is a same-day payment. If the payment is made after 5 PM, it will be processed the next day.
    • Select the payment account. See Manage Payment Accounts to add or remove payment accounts.
    • Click Review to review the details of your payment. Click Pay to authorize the payment.

How to report a lost/stolen card

  • If you think you might have misplaced your card temporarily, you can turn it off while you look for it. If you find your card in a location where your information would not have been compromised, you can turn your card back on and continue to use it.
  • If you believe your card has been lost in an unsecured location where someone else might have access to it, or that it has been stolen, place a permanent block and order a new card with SmartWallet.
  • Select your missing card and click Report Lost or Stolen under the Manage Card menu
  • Specify whether the card was lost or stolen and click
  • A popup window will appear to confirm that the card will be permanently disabled to prevent unauthorized activity. Click Continue.
  • Tap Contact Us to review your transaction history for fraudulent charges, and to order a new card.

How to get spending insights

  • Click on Spend Insights under the Card Details menu
  • Tap What to view a breakdown of your spending between categories.
  • Tap When to view a breakdown by month.
  • Tap Where to view the location of your transactions on a map.
  • Tap on a transaction to view more details.

How to add travel plans

  • Tap Manage Travel Plans under the Manage Card menu
  • You will be sent a security code to confirm your identity using the contact information on file. Enter the code and click
  • Add the destinations and dates of your travel plan, then click
  • Once submitted, it will display on the Manage Travel Plans You can edit or delete it at any time.

How to view your digital card

  • Tap View Digital Card under the Card Details menu
  • You will be sent a security code to confirm your identity using the contact information on file. Enter the code and click
  • You will be shown your Digital Card Image, including the full card number, expiration date, and security code. Use this information to make online purchases, store your card with a merchant, and more without needing to use your physical card.
  • The card image will expire after 1 minute 40 seconds, or you can close it early by clicking If you need more time, you can repeat the process with a new security code.

How to view recurring transactions and stored cards

  • Tap Card On File under the Card Details menu to see which merchants have stored your card details.
  • Tap Card on File to view a list of merchants where you have stored your card for one-time payments and/or for future purchases.
  • Tap Recurring Payments to see a list of merchants where you have stored your card information for subscriptions, recurring, and/or repeating payments.
  • Tap on a transaction to view more details, including the amount, when the transaction was last processed, and more.

How to add a card to your digital wallet

  • This feature is only available to Apple Wallet and Google Pay users
  • If you are using the mobile app, SmartWallet will recognize the digital wallet available on your device and will prompt you to add your card to your digital wallet if desired.
  • Follow the steps outlined on your device to add your card to your digital wallet to make purchases with your 1st Ed card using your mobile device.
